The Purpose Of Art Is To Awaken
"The purpose of Art is to awaken." We would like to explore this ancient maxim, where self-cultivation and one's chosen Art work together to create not only a valuable, beautiful poem or painting but a better human being as well. This is where Spirituality and Art conjoin, where substance is considered superior to style, and meaning superior to mere entertainment, where essential character is superior to celebrity. And within this work, often humorous and entertaining, as well as being memorable, able to stand the test of time, one may feel more connected and in harmony to the mystery that lives behind perception and phenomenon. In our more ambitious and inspirational moments we may hope to create (or perhaps we should say rather 'rediscover' a new paradigm. At least let us hope to offer a counterbalance to the more silly, trivial and cynical nonsense that passes for Art in this age. If you believe that Art is one of humankind's higher pursuits, then please offer your voice to the dialogue.
"The mind wants to know, but the syllables of the heart pour out silently."

The Way Of Art
Please join our mailing list simply by leaving your contact information. It will be secure, and used only to contact you about events or related fields.
I'd like to hear from you; we have an online journal on our other site: SLEEPERS-IN-TRANSLATION.ORG
The 'Way of Art' simply refers to the eastern perception of Art as a life-long process of self-cultivation. I agree, and hope that we can go beyond the cult of personality now tarnishing Art, Politics, personal relationships, etc. . .
and truly offer our world and one another something better... Why not?
I am committed to offering the support I did not have: honest feedback; void of biases; knowing there are genuine artists out there working in anonymity, coming from all walks of life and educational backgrounds. I will publish the exceptional 'Chapbook' on a co-op basis and offer all the promotion I have learned of late, as well as review the collection and post a strong excerpt on the online journal that's on: SLEEPERS-IN TRANSLATION.ORG
I have found half a dozen very helpful sites which you can use. As for me I have taken a hiatus from submistting (the 2 second ego stroke isn't worth the hassle anymore); I am focussing on the work and looking for an agent who believes in my work. Currently I'm putting together a sample package to show the diversity and over-all picture of who I am and what I am writing about.
'learning when to let go -- that cool, deep water . . .'
Eventually I will have a newsletter of sorts for all those interested; more of a blog really, and will ask for contributions and links to reputable sites that may help us on this nearly anonymous journey.
Stay in touch. . . There's more coming; time is the only problem.
Best Wishes!
Kevin

My Goals & Methods
As both poet & writer I must often juggle between the two: letting the poetry flow while maintaining the discipline of the story. I used to be so foolish as to suppress the poetry in search of the perfect sentence. No more. 'Touch The Cool Stone' is working much better now that this absurdity has been realized and the corrections made. We must not hold back, for any reason. The Novella just mentioned is progressing very well and should be complete by Spring of 08. Then begins the resumption of my Novel, 'Welcome To My Hollywood' which currently contains approximately 100 pages, clear character sketches and outline, as well as the ending. I am enjoying the writing of both projects. As for poetry, I have just finished 'Sleepers In Translation', the book I always wanted to write. It will be available soon at a price of $15.00 and is an attractive volume, perfect bound, with original cover art and 125 pages of my best work of some 25 years. I must admit to a feeling of relief, for now I can refocus on 'Touch The Cool Stone' whose characters have already begun to make their demands. Certain rather unruly characters in 'Welcome' are also making noise but I have appeased them with the promise of my full attention, soon after the completion of the Novella. Beyond this, I have my writing projects outlined for at least the next ten years. One (for which I have had to make numerous trips to the gritty side of Nogales, Mexico) such story has jumped out to a strong beginning. We shall see.
Writers each have his or her way -- some are much more rigid and eccentric than others. As for me, I am grateful for the chance to do this work at all, and just let it fly. My only problem is Time. There's not nearly enough of it.
I've been scribbling, studying, reading after studying what was worth reading for three decades or more and at last I feel the apex nearing . . .
I have lived in California, Arizona, Maryland, Virginia, Florida, Kentucky, Oregon, and the Bahamas. I have traveled as much as a working man could arrange: To Mexico, Canado, Germany, Austria, and nearly every state in America. Absorbing stories. Every one has one. All we need to do is listen. I choose to listen with sympathy, given that it is perfectly clear that each of us is in the same leaky canoe, paddling with our hands into the melting unknown. Along the way we invent, first an identity, then a way of being, a career or job, relationships, while suppressing the bogeyman we once knew was in the closet or beneath our bed. Many of us have come to discover dark phantom far worse than anything we had imagined.
I live in Arizona, live quietly, and write.
The longing continues to propel me forward.
